Open the Doors to Christ - St Brendan's Parish Mission, Annandale
Our tenth parish mission will take place at St Brendan's, Annandale, Sat 29 Nov - Sun 7 Dec. Click HERE for the programme.
“For the disciple of Christ to evangelise is an obligation of love.” (Pope John Paul II)
“the Gospel must be heard by all people, believers
and non-believers, natives and immigrants, rich and poor, young and old.
Indeed, all these people have the right to hear the Gospel, which means
that Christians have a solemn duty to share it with them. A new evangelisation
is needed today so that everyone may hear, understand and believe in God's
mercy destined for all people in Jesus Christ”. (Ecclesia in Oceania 18).
The Credo Mission Team consists of: priests, seminarians from
the Seminary of the Good Shepherd, members of New Ecclesial Movements,
and members of the laity.
The Mission Team aims to support your parish
in its endeavour to renew and strengthen parish life. Working
together with your parish community the Mission Team will bring the
Gospel message to the people…

OTHERS:
WHY MISSION?
For over a decade the Pope has been urging the Church
to engage in the New Evangelisation . He has constantly returned
to this theme, indicating the depth of his conviction that the Church
needs to embrace a new evangelisation as the key to its pastoral initiatives.
The Pope sees that while the content of the message of salvation in
Jesus Christ always remains as its heart, but the means and methods
used to convey the message need to be adapted to the circumstances
of the culture and time. He urges us to be imaginative and creative.
The call has been explicitly addressed to us in “Ecclesia in Oceania” when
the Pope says, “A new evangelisation is the first priority for the
Church in Oceania” (par 18).
“Open the Doors to Christ” Parish Mission is an initiative
within the Archdiocese. The periodic conducting of a parish mission
has always been considered an important aspect to the maintaining
of the spiritual wellbeing of the parish community. “Open the Doors
to Christ”, inspired by the words of the Holy Father at the beginning
of his pontificate, is a form of parish mission, which draws on the
experience of ecclesial movements, which have embraced the new evangelisation.
This form of mission is effective in communicating
with people in an effective way the call to open their hearts and
lives to Christ.
I recommend it to any parish community wishing to renew
its vigour and spirit.
Bishop Julian Porteous
Vicar for Evangelisation and Renewal
Archdiocese of Sydney
